On Thursday, Feb. 17, Riverhead Police officers responded to Riverhead Middle School at 600 Harrison Ave., to assist with a school investigation into students ingesting a commercially made THC candy the day before while at school.
None of the students required medical attention, the Riverhead Police said.
An investigation by the detective division determined that Marvin Dominguez Torres, a 20-year-old Riverhead resident had given a 14-year-old student that resides in his residence the THC candy, “Medical Nerds," police added.
The 14-year-old student then shared the THC candy with two of his friends. It was determined that the remaining candy was destroyed and had not been distributed further, police added.
Marvin A. Dominguez Torres, of Riverhead, was arrested for endangering the welfare of a child, processed, and released on a desk appearance ticket, police said.
This incident is isolated and not connected to other previously reported incidents at the Riverhead High School.

As a result of the arrest, police are warning parents that commercially made THC candy is sometimes packaged similar to conventional candy products.
"This is just another example of how important it is to keep prescription drugs, alcohol, nicotine, and marijuana away from anyone under the age of 21," they said.
Any parent who has unwanted or outdated marijuana edibles can discard them at the medication drop box at the department.
